Music has the power to build confidence, spark creativity and create lasting connections. We support young musicians to develop their craft, find their creative voice and take meaningful steps towards a future in music.
Our programs create pathways for young people at every stage of their journey – whether they’re picking up an instrument for the first time, writing original songs, performing live, recording in a professional studio or exploring careers across the contemporary music industry. Delivered at Carclew, in schools and across regional South Australia, our programs connect young people with experienced artists, producers and industry professionals who inspire, mentor and open doors.
Carclew has played a significant role in nurturing South Australia’s music community for generations. Today, we’re building on that legacy with contemporary programs that respond to the needs of emerging artists and the changing music landscape. From forming bands and writing original music to recording demos, performing on stage and gaining real industry experience, we create opportunities that help young people grow creatively, professionally and personally.
Our music program spans artist development, workshops, live performance opportunities, school holiday programs, mentoring, recording, industry partnerships and all-ages events that strengthen South Australia’s music ecology.
Some recent programs and key initiatives include:
Stables Studio – our fully equipped recording and production space, providing young artists with access to professional recording opportunities.
Holiday Bands – a “backstage pass” into the Adelaide music scene and a confidence-building experience for young musicians during school holidays. This iconic program is where young musicians form bands, write original music, record demos and perform live, creating friendships and connections that often continue well beyond the workshop.
Turn It Up – a youth band development workshop led by Will Everett, an active SA musician who brings real industry experience, live performance knowledge and artist-to-artist mentorship.
Song Sessions – involved artists working with producer Mario Spate & songwriter Alex Hosking, to have violinist Julian Ferraretto arrange their live music performance at the Crescendo Festival.
Tiny D-esque – was a recent collaboration with Wizard Tone Studios, inviting four SA artists to perform intimate live sets in front of a studio audience, captured in high-quality audio and video, creating a live recording series.
Band! Zine!! Shoot!!! – a school holiday program offering young people a day of jamming, zine-making, and photography workshops.
The Note – in an exclusive partnership with Carclew, The Note has launched ‘Teen Spirit’: a Youth Edition of Adelaide’s favourite street magazine.
